My objective is to create a character that is true to the species (for example, I do not like seeing generic birds with random colours- there is no need, as real species are far more interesting).
Bright, clear illustrations bring a story alive and are very important in the enjoyment of a book. My animals are clear and boldly coloured, and can be placed in simple or detailed backgrounds depending on the needs of the story.
